文の構造による英文の種類
ＳＶのカップルが何組あるか？
文の構造を見てみると、ここでもまた、文の構成要素である
「主語と述語動詞」をひとつのユニットとして考えたとき、
全ての英文は次の３つの種類に分類することができます。
ここでは文章の構造を、登場する主語と述語のペアがいくつあるかと
そのＳＶのペアとＳＶのペアが、どんな関係で結ばれているかにより
３つの異なる種類に分けられることを紹介していきます。
そして、それらは単文、重文と複文とそれぞれ呼ばれています。
ＳＶの数と双方の関係に関連した構造による英文の分類 単文、重文、複文とは？
Ⅰ 単文(Simple Sentence)
単文とは、文中にＳＶのペアが一つしか存在しない文章を示します。
Ⅱ 重文(Compound Sentence)
重文とは、SVが２つ以上あって、それらが
等位接続詞（and,or,but,so,forなどの接続詞）でつながれている文章のことです。
You wear a pair of basketball shoes and they are white.
Ⅲ 複文(Complex Sentence)
複文とは、文章の中に、ＳＶのペアが２つ以上あってそれらが
従位接続詞（that,when,afterなどの等位接続詞以外の接続詞）
関係詞、疑問詞などで結ばれている文章のことです。
例）I am sure that they are also friends.
英文では、単文、重文、複文どの形でも同じ意味の文章を作ることができる
また、英文では同じ内容の文章を単文、重文、複文で意味を変えずに表現することができます。
こちらの例文を見てください。
⓵ My brother and sister were celebrating their friends’ marriage in their wedding party this afternoon.
② My brother and sister were in their friends’ wedding party this afternoon, and they were celebrating their marriage.
③ It was in this afternoon when my brother and sister were celebrating their friends’ marriage in their wedding party.
これら⓵②③の例文はすべて同じ内容の意味を持っています。
それぞれの文の構造は、⓵は単文で②は重文③は複文です。
このように英文では同じ内容の文章を、単文でも重文でも、また複文でも表現することが出来ます。
もう一度、今度は⓵②③の例文中の
ＳとＶを赤字で示して、接続詞を太字で表しておきます。
⓵ My brother and sister were celebrating their friends’ marriage in their wedding party this afternoon.
② My brother and sister were in their friends’ wedding party this afternoon, and they were celebrating their marriage.
③ It was in this afternoon when my brother and sister were celebrating their friends’ marriage in their wedding party.
